Scorpion
00:34
|
|||
Have you ever heard the story of the scorpion and the bat? One night, the scorpion wanted to cross a ravine. It called out to a pale desert bat flying overhead.
"Bat, will you please carry me across the ravine?"
The bat heard the scorpion's plea, but the bat was... hungry. The bat swooped down and ate the scorpion, stinger and all.

Cactus Flowers
03:06
|
|||
The air is cool, the ground is warm and dry
Away is every bee and butterfly
Yet flowers bloom so fragrant in the night
In brightest shades of yellow and of white
The nectar bats can smell them from afar
And closer by, find echoes where they are
To visit for a moment brief and sweet
Then off to cross the desert and repeat
This desert night
Between the sunset and sunrise is
Full of life
And silly sweet surprises
Meanwhile, another bat goes buzzing by
And swoops down for a scorpion to try
No trouble for this big-eared little fluff
But maybe not adventurous enough
Why not try what the nectar bats prefer?
Up flies the furry flavor connoisseur
Head first into the pollen, what a mess
And that's the bat who pollinates the best
This desert night
Between the sunset and sunrise is
Full of life
And silly sweet surprises
This desert night
Between the sunset and sunrise is
Full of life
And silly sweet surprises
This desert night
This desert life
This desert night
This desert life
This desert night
This desert life
This desert life

Carlsbad Caverns
02:46
|
|||
Warm desert air and lilac sky, with chattering below
A human crowd is gathered 'round to watch the night's routine
The stars all chat amongst themselves as they prepare to go
Their words are all unknown to me, and all are still unseen
Anticipation built from years of reading of this place
I watch the rocky opening and ever-dimming sky
With every sound to reach my ears, I can't control my face
At first a smile, which turns to awe as they begin to fly
The first are few and hard to spot, each dark and dodging speck
But fingers try to point them out and track the course of flight
They linger by the opening as if to double-check
But soon they head away to hunt, and then, to my delight:
The few turn to a trickle, and the trickle to a stream
The colony in hundreds, thousands, more above my head
Their voices high and charming and their path like pouring steam
Each particle a creature searching out the feast ahead
Propelled by hands alone yet speeding through the air above
The fastest out of all the lands, and I am here to see
How lucky am I being here, so filled with joy and love?
Enough to spark a dozen years of song and poetry.

Leatherwing Bats
02:46
|
|||
Hi, said the little disk-winged bat
I'll tell you the reason that
The reason that I hold so tight
Is because I lost my heart's delight
(Chorus)
Howdy dowdy diddle um day
Howdy dowdy diddle um day
Howdy dowdy diddle um day
La da dee dee di dee do
Hi, said the ghost bat hanging on a leaf
I had a love beyond belief
But I lost my love one night
And since then I've been ghostly white
(Chorus)
Hi, said the vampire bat so small
Mine is the greatest love of all
When I couldn't hunt, she kept me fed
And if she hadn't, I'd be dead
(Chorus)
Hi, said the bat with the wrinkled face
My love found another to take my place
Ever since then I've shed no tears
But I've felt old as a hundred years
(Chorus)
Hi, said the hammerhead bat so loud
I'll tell you how to win her 'round
When the time comes just sing your best
And her own heart will do the rest
(Chorus x2)

April 17th
01:56
|

Always the cutest
Fuzzy little ball of fur
My exclamation
Grateful to have them
Eating all the bugs away
Plus pollination
(It's a bat x5)
So many species
Thousands just of those we know
Never gets boring
Many who migrate
Find the best across the lands
Ever exploring
(It's a bat x7)
Some cuddle closer
Every winter slowing down
In hibernation
Echolocation
Call and listen to your prey
Echo location
(It's a bat x5)
Always expressive
Yelling and a built-in cape
For your dramatics
Birds only envy
Diving, flipping, landing well
Air acrobatics
(It's a bat x5)
(It's a bat x7)
(It's a bat x5)

Bat Snuggles
01:47
|
|||
Bat snuggles!
(Doo doo doo doo dadoo dadoo doo doo doo doo dadoo)
Where's my baby bat?
(Doo doo doo...)
I'm over here!
(Doo doo doo...)
I'd know that smell anywhere.
(Doo doo doo...)
Bat snuggles!
(Doo doo doo...)
Bat struggles...
(Doo doo doo...)
Hey, move over!
(Doo doo doo...)
But it's my spot!
(Doo doo doo...)
Mom, she's touching me!
(Doo doo doo...)
Bat struggles.
(Doo doo doo...)
Bat snuggles!
(Doo doo doo...)
Let me clean your fur.
(Doo doo doo...)
Hold still!
(Doo doo doo...)
That's better.
(Doo doo doo...)
Bat snuggles!

Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!
Up above the world you fly,
Like a teatray in the sky.
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!
When the blazing lamps are lit,
When they amber light emit,
Then you show your skill in flight,
Twinkle, twinkle, all the night.
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!
Little trav'ller in the dark,
Shouting in your loudest bark,
You can hear which way to go,
If you always listen so.
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!
In the dark blue sky you host
Tea and cakes and jam and toast,
And if beetles do attend,
Down the teatray does descend.
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!
Such a bright and tiny spark,
Little trav'ller in the dark,
Tho' I know not what you're at,
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat.
Twinkle, twinkle, little bat!
How I wonder what you're at!

Red Bat Song
02:11
|
|||
Trees are turning warmer colors, sun is setting soon
My season has arrived and it's a perfect afternoon
I'll sleep a little longer as I dangle from an oak
My tail a fuzzy blanket and my wings a cozy cloak
Autumn leaves
Red and orange just like me
On the trees
Gently twisting in the breeze
The leaves and me
Twilight takes a turn before it tumbles into night
And I myself am tumbling into freely flapping flight
The moths I catch are many and I'm feeling gratified
The moon and rusty Mars are shining brightly by my side
Autumn leaves
Red and orange just like me
From the trees
Gently falling in the breeze
The leaves and me
Food and cozy blanket curling help fend off the chill
And in the day, I dream of moths, those dreams I can fulfill
The days are getting colder, but I know I'll be all right
Because I have a place to hide away through winter white
Autumn leaves
Red and orange just like me
Round the trees
Keep me warm till winter leaves
The leaves and me

Find Hungry Bats
04:25
|
|||
The bugs, they come back every year and eat up all our grain
To keep our little town afloat, our harvest must remain
The pattern keeps repeating where they come, they eat, they leave
And though we try to fend them off, we never get reprieve
We need someone to help us, but we can't afford a lot
They'll need to work for room and board, as that's all that we've got
So now I'm off to find somebody who might take this deal
Help defend our little town and get a hearty meal
A wise person told me, "Find hungry bats"
Our new friends travel toward us past the rivers and the trees
A line of hungry heroes moving onward steadily
There was no warm reception as the townsfolk were all scared
The new arrivals found no trust, so loudly I declared
"They're here to help us stop the bugs from taking all our food away
It's time that we learn how to keep those nasty pests at bay
I promised I would find someone to help us take a stand
I'll host all seven dozen of them here upon my land"
A wise person told me, "Find hungry bats"
Armed with teeth and grabby feet and riding on the air
These fighters were a deadly force to any bugs who'd dare
To try us now we've got ourselves a band of hungry bats
They'll find themselves all fleeing like the mice do from the cats
The battle must begin as darkness settles on the sky
And every night above the fields, the fastest wings do fly
They feast on many thousands each until their flight is through
Our little town has won the fight, and so our friends have too
And so our friends have too
A wise person told me, "Find hungry bats"
Find hungry bats
Find hungry bats

Sweet Bats Over Yonder
02:24
|
|||
Just a moment's walk along the street where I reside
A river runs across the town where lucky folks have spied
Some bats above the water and I don't mind telling you
That they're the sweetest creatures on this earth who ever flew...
Sweet bats over yonder
How treasured are those?
I couldn't be fonder
Most everyone knows
And when they fly over
How happy we'll be
For bats love the bugs of the river
And bugs of the river love me
I never shall forget the day I sat beneath a bridge
As evening fell upon the sky and cooled the air a smidge
'Twas on that summer evening that the bats bewitched my mind
By swirling out hypnotically as bats are so inclined
Sweet bats over yonder
How treasured are those?
I couldn't be fonder
Most everyone knows
And when they fly over
How happy we'll be
For bats love the bugs of the river
And bugs of the river love me
